East Jeju, Pyoseon — What You Need to Know Before You Book

One thing a lot of first-time visitors don’t know: you can’t get to Jeju by car from Seoul. It’s a ~1 hour flight. And the island itself is bigger than most people expect — east and west Jeju feel like two completely different destinations, with different scenery, different attractions, and different vibes.

Haevichi sits in Pyoseon on the east side, which makes it a great base for exploring east Jeju’s biggest attractions — Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), Udo Island, Bijarim Forest, and Manjanggul Cave are all within 30–35 minutes by car.

📍 Distances from Haevichi (by car)

Almost Everything Is Free to Borrow — Pack a Lot Less

At most hotels in the US or Europe, renting a pack-n-play costs $30–50 per night. At Haevichi, all of this is free. I was skeptical at first — but we called right after check-in and had the bed rail and baby toilet seat delivered to the room within minutes.

Indoor + Outdoor Pool Connected — Everything Your Kids Need Is Already There

The pool is the main reason most families pick Haevichi. The indoor and outdoor sections connect underwater — you can move between them without stepping out. The depth gradually increases, so it’s safe for young kids from the start. And since it’s open until 10 PM, you can spend the day sightseeing and still come back for an evening swim.

We had a garden-side room, which had more greenery than I expected — it was nicer than it sounds. Ocean view rooms are also available, so if you want a sea view, just make sure to request one when booking.

🚿 The Bathroom — The Bit Western Guests Are Usually Surprised By

Bathroom amenities

✅ Korean hotel bathrooms are often split into separate areas — vanity, bathtub, and toilet each in their own space. Haevichi is the same. It’s noticeably more spacious than a typical Western hotel bathroom, which makes a real difference when you’re bathing a toddler while someone else needs the toilet.

Something Most Guests Don’t Know — There’s a Trail Through the Whole Resort

The resort is big enough that there’s a full walking loop — from the hotel tower through the resort side, past the pool, and out to a point where you can see the sea. We did it after dinner with the kids and it was genuinely one of the nicest parts of the trip. Not many guests seem to know it’s there.

✅ Jeju weather can change fast. Even if it rains all day, you have enough inside the resort to keep the kids (and yourselves) occupied.

Breakfast at Seommora — Your First Korean Hotel Buffet

If you haven’t had a Korean hotel buffet breakfast before, there’s more going on than you’d expect. It’s not just food set out on a table — there are multiple live cooking stations where things are made fresh in front of you. That part alone made it worth it for us.

Even though this is a Korean hotel breakfast, the Western options are solid. There’s plenty for kids — pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon. Nothing they’d refuse.

The abalone porridge (전복죽 / jeonbok-juk) is one of Jeju’s most iconic local dishes — this is a genuinely good place to try it. The Korean hot food section also includes bulgogi, grilled mackerel, dumplings, and more.

💡 Breakfast tip:
After 8:30 AM the rush dies down and you can walk straight in. Window seats are bright but get strong sun — if you’re there with a baby, an inside table is more comfortable. Check if your booking includes breakfast — packages are often cheaper than paying per person on the day.

What You Can Reach Without a Car

🏖️ Pyoseon Beach — 5 Minutes on Foot

The hotel is right next to Pyoseon Beach, which is known for having exceptionally fine sand and very shallow water — one of the better beaches on the island for families with young kids. Walking distance from the hotel means you can head over after breakfast for an easy morning.

🐟 Dangpo Hoe Center — 10 Minutes on Foot

About 10 minutes’ walk away, there’s a seafood restaurant serving Korean-style fresh raw fish (회 / hoe). Around ₩40,000 (~$29) per person for a full set. If you want to try fresh Jeju seafood without getting in the car, this is the place.

☕ Cafe Mago — Inside the Resort

The resort’s own bakery café. Hotel guests get 10% off. Good spot for a morning coffee or a last croissant before checkout.

📍 East Jeju day trips — Seongsan Ilchulbong, Udo Island, Seongeup Folk Village, and more — are covered in a separate 3-day East Jeju itinerary post coming soon.

✔ Who Should Stay
  • ✔ Planning to visit Seongsan Ilchulbong or Udo Island
  • ✔ East Jeju itinerary (Bijarim, Manjanggul, etc.)
  • ✔ Families with kids aged 0–7
  • ✔ Wanting a relaxed day at the resort between day trips
  • ✔ Traveling light and needing baby equipment
✘ Who Should Look Elsewhere
  • ✘ Main plan is Hyeopjae Beach (west side)
  • ✘ Aewol café street is your priority
  • ✘ Osulloc Tea Museum / Hallim Park visit
  • ✘ West-only Jeju itinerary

If most of your Jeju plans are on the west side, a hotel near the airport or Aewol will save you a lot of driving.

Bottom Line — Right Resort If You’re on the East Side with Kids

If I had to pick one resort for east Jeju with young kids, it would be Haevichi. We’d stay here again.

Jeju has no shortage of resorts. But if you’re traveling with young kids on the east side, Haevichi is in a different category. It’s close to all the major east Jeju attractions — Seongsan Ilchulbong, Udo, Bijarim — and the free baby equipment rental, connected indoor-outdoor pool, and spacious split bathrooms are all genuinely useful when you’re traveling as a family. The fact that you can pack lighter alone makes a real difference.

If west Jeju isn’t your main plan, Haevichi is the first place I’d check for east-side family accommodation.

If we return to East Jeju with our child, this is the hotel we would book again.
